My wife Carmen and I are delighted to offer a unique cultural holiday* at our home and studio in Northern Greece to those who want to  explore the ways of fire and clay, while experiencing an authentic taste of Greece.

Enjoy our warm and friendly hospitality, the vibrant city of Thessaloniki and the beautiful beaches and countryside of Northern Greece along with Greek and Spanish cuisine as you learn and practice your ceramics skills, in an intensive ceramics workshop that focuses on throwing and firing techniques.

The Workshop

Our workshops consist of 6-9 hrs (a day) of formal studio ceramics lessons on throwing and firing techniques. I purposely keep the class size small, in order to provide  individual instruction, and attention to all students, while maintaining a comfortable pace and a friendly, informal atmosphere.

 My goal is for you to acquire, or enhance your pottery skills with confidence, and gain a very good hands-on understanding of the use of fire and firing methods in contemporary ceramic practice, in order to help you develop your creative potential.

The day starts with a great Greek breakfast  followed by 6 hrs of studio work.
At 2 -2:30 we stop  for lunch. Carmen will surprise us each day with her Greek and Spanish recipes. Most vegetables are from our garden, and we are happy to serve you all vegetarian meals if you prefer. After lunch, we usually rest.
In the evening you're free to use the studio, go to the city or just unwind.
When we have  a project  in the evening, we will be busy for 3 or more hrs depending on the project.

After dinner  -when we're at the almond grove- in a laid-back and relaxed atmosphere, we will have time for informal discussions on ceramic art  and art in general. We will also  explore, with the use of audio visuals, the work of other ceramic artists, painters  sculptors, performers et al.

There will be a guided evening tour of Thessaloniki, plus a full day excursion to the beaches on the Aegean coast of  Sithonia-Halkidiki and lunch at a seaside tavern(summer), or other(winter)

 

My Background

I have more than 30 years of experience as a practicing artist and teacher of ceramics. I have taught and mentored students from many countries in various aspects of the art and craft of ceramics. I teach my workshops in fluent English, Spanish or Greek, depending on students’ requirements.

Getting Here

 There are direct flights to Thessaloniki from many European cities and flights from all over the world connecting through Athens.
