A workshop on the fundamentals of ceramics, with a focus on throwing and alternative firing techniques.
The workshop is suitable for all levels of experience- from the true beginner to the very advanced-and is designed to fit the individual needs of each participant. The course will cover centering, throwing cylinders, bowls, round and closed forms, bottles and lids, and trimming bases. More experienced students will learn how to center and throw larger amounts of clay by multi-part section centering, throwing and assembling, and they will improve their skills in more complex pottery forms.
You will be introduced to basic glaze theory and techniques, including terra sigillata.
The workshop also aims to give you a very good hands-on understanding of the use of fire in contemporary ceramic practice.
We will cover:
-
Glazed raku
-
Terra sigillata
-
Naked raku
-
Copper mattes
The workshop is limited to 5 students only, in order to ensure individualized and focused tutoring.
There will be plenty of time during and after the daily program for discussions on ceramic art and art in general in both formal and informal meetings. A well-stocked library will be at your disposal, with access to full internet facilities.

WORKSHOPS UNDER COVID-19, 2024
For the time being, we will be adopting the recommended precautions by the Health authorities. In this way, I am confident that we'll be fine here at the Almond Grove: safe and relaxed , so we can all get the most out of the course.
REGARDLESS OF THE GREEK GOVERNMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR ENTERING GREECE
3 self-tests are required starting 3 days before the workshop starts and ending the day of the first day of the workshop
This contributed to a mask free workshop and brought a sense of normality in the workshop.
We also strongly recommend TRAVEL INSURANCE read more
We look forward to seeing you on one of our forthcoming workshops.
